The Nora Theory is all about dismantling the term “guilty pleasures”. We should unabashedly take joy in whatever brings us that joy, whether it be traditionally lauded leisure pursuits like golfing and reading the classics, or watching wealthy women scream at each other and reading books about our favorite Disney villains turned to kinky romance heroes. We’re here to celebrate the pleasures that are looked down on and judged, because these pleasures are worth celebrating. We should never feel guilty for finding pleasure wherever it comes.
Most of us, especially the girls, gays, and theys, are made to feel less than over the things that we love. Society rolls its eyes at so many of the things that are bright spots in an otherwise dreary existence. Reality TV, romance novels and YA fantasies are the perfect example. Come along with The Nora Theory on our journey to embrace and enjoy all the things we’re supposed to be embarrassed to love. In honor of Nora Bing, Chandler’s romance novelist mother on the show Friends, have a shot of tequila or a large order of Kung Pao chicken. Read a spicy book, and do it with pride. Celebrate life without shame.
The Nora Theory was started by Olivia Smith Goulet, a girl who just wanted to read romance novels all day and call it a job. Olivia has a BA in English Literature, summa cum laude, but as much as she loves literature in all it’s forms, it’s the stories that tell about love, sex, magic, and mystery that will always come first in her heart.
