In my professional-ish opinion, the Rogue x Ara series is a severely underrated addition to the fantasy romance realm. The Last Draig is the second in the series, which is perfect for readers who loved Fourth Wing and Iron Flame. Warning: this review is going to be awkwardly vague to keep from spoiling anything, and since this is the second book in the series that’s a tricky endeavor.
This series features fated mates and enemies-to-lovers, which is my absolute favorite combination of tropes. There are incredible character dynamics combined with thoughtful world-building and magical systems that are easy to catch onto. All kinds of twists and turns add a richly layered history and feel to these books, making them feel like an adventure to read.
Rogue is such a perfect book boyfriend, and the heroine is stubborn and a total badass. There are dragons and faeries and the smut is absolutely top-notch. There is a scene in a library towards the end of the second book and these books are worth reading just for that scene. If you are a Xaden, Cassian, or Rhysand girl, you are going to love Rogue Draki.
The only downside to the Rogue x Ara series is that I was under the impression that this was a complete duet. It isn’t and now I’m just waiting hopelessly to find out what happens once again. This book ends in an unholy bitch of a cliffhanger (I mean this in the best way possible) and I am ravenous for the next book.
If you are craving your next romantasy hit, give J.D. Linton a try. You will not be disappointed.
