Keres by Sadie Kincaid is the continuation of her Chicago Ruthless series, following the different members of the Moretti crime family. Each book is a standalone story, this one following a long-lost Moretti half-sister and her journey to revenge.
Salvatore Moretti sold her mother into slavery. Keres was born as property and stayed that way until her mother was murdered and she was rescued by a mysterious man. Now all grown up, Keres is ready to get her revenge on the people responsible for the horrors of her childhood, the Morettis.
Her ticket in to access the Moretti family comes in the form of two smoking hot bodyguards, Ace and Romeo. Things, naturally, do not go as planned. Now these two bodyguards have one job, to keep an eye on Keres while she attempts to exact her revenge.
Keres is an MMF romance that’s cathartic, intense, and oh-so spicy. Keres is a classic badass heroine who has been through hell, and I love her. She is deeply flawed, but you can’t help but root for her, even when you know she’s making a horrible mistake. Ace and Romeo are protective, possessive, dominant, and dreamy. They’re also deeply in love with each other and captivated by Keres, despite her obvious dangers.
“But what she doesn’t realize is that her walls won’t keep me out for long. I want to break her down piece by piece before I put her back together again. I want her fractured soul and her broken heart, and I want her to give them to me of her own free will. Then I can watch her rise like the goddamn warrior she is and stand by her side until the end of my fucking days.”
This is the darkest of the Chicago Ruthless books so far. Lorenzo’s story was heartbreaking, but Keres’ story takes it to a whole different place. She has been through unimaginable hell, and Ace and Romeo haven’t exactly had it easy either.
I read this book in a matter of hours. I was enthralled from the first page to the last. Keres, despite the sometimes disturbing pieces of the story, has such a sweet happily ever after. It was such a satisfying conclusion to their story. What more could a messed up girl ever want? I love that for her. For readers of dark mafia romance, Sadie Kincaid has once again given us a story that’s equal parts delicious and emotional, spicy, sweet, and violent all at once.
