Frankie Novak is married to the richest man in Alaska. She’s a trauma nurse living on a gorgeous island, and things are going just fine until she finds out she’s pregnant. Her husband Monty doesn’t want the child, and reacts like a complete asshole, leaving Frankie at home while he heads off to the office. When a meticulous kidnapper comes in and snatches Frankie, it looks like she’s just left her husband after their fight.

In reality, though, Frankie is in the cargo hold of a plane, and her kidnapper is flying her to an unmapped location deep in the Arctic, where only horrors await her. Denver, her kidnapper, has three sons, all raised in his remote Arctic cabin far from civilization. And he’s bringing Frankie as a gift for Leo, Kodiak, and Wolf.

The series starts out dark and only gets darker from there as the secrets this family is hiding in their remote cabin are slowly revealed. It is disturbing and strange in a way that is quite fascinating, but also deeply unsettling at times. Prepare yourself for spending a great deal of time having no idea what’s really going on, a journey the readers share with the main character.

The characters are literally starving to death for much of the second book, and somehow the author still manages to weave sexy and romantic moments into this dire situation. It is a testament to the bonds she’s built between the characters that shine through in every crisis they face. The relationship between Frankie and the men she falls for is so fierce and passionate. Their shared struggle builds an extreme kind of closeness between them that feels so powerful.

At times, it almost seems like this story is coming to a conclusion but then you realize there’s a whole third book left in the series, not to mention half of the second, so I was anticipating a hell of a twist. And indeed that’s exactly what I got. The plot twists in this series are batshit, and to be clear that is highly complementary.
