Vicious Wins by Poppy Jacobson is the second book in The Cruel Games duet. It’s a dark and spicy, polyamorous, why choose hockey romance. This book has everything, and after the first book ended on a brutal cliffhanger, I was more than ready to dive back into Poppy Jacobson’s sexy, twisted universe.
After Eva’s accident, everyone is left angry and reeling. With Eva’s men all furious with her betrayal, and her furious with theirs, it seems impossible that these four people will ever be able to pick up the pieces.
Just when it seems that the rage between them will break them, a common enemy reunites this messy foursome, and Eva’s men realize they fucked up and will do anything to get her back.
I hated her. She betrayed me. She lied to me. She made me want to be a better man. Fuck.
All four of the main characters in Vicious Wins experience a great deal of emotional growth throughout the events of this story. Each of them is so distinct, each filling the perfect role in the story. They’re dynamic, sexy, messy, and human. It’s over-the-top in a wonderful way.
This book is easy to tear through. It’s incredibly fast-paced, and I read it in a single Saturday. It had been a while since I read the first book, but there was no confusion at all. The second book picks up right where Twisted Play left off, and the author quickly but subtly fills the readers in on the important highlights.
This plot is the perfect mix of drama and sex, with very little hockey. The spice is passionate and angsty. It’s a little dark and fucked up, but nothing too crazy. Every scene is filled with chemistry that jumps off the page.
Vicious Wins is a fun, phenomenal dark romance that captures the reader’s attention from the start to the very last page of the epilogue. It’s exciting, with artfully done spice, and I can’t wait to see what Poppy Jacobson does next.
