Sierra Simone’s Salt Kiss is now available on ReelShort as a vertical, fast-to-watch, dramatic adaptation on the platform. I was graciously invited by the ReelShort PR team to watch this version of one of my all-time favorite romance novels, and let me tell you, dear readers, this one is a wild ride.
First and foremost, a warning. This is a reimagining of the Lyonesse world. Do not expect a faithful to canon, perfect adaptation of the existing plot. You will not find it here. Frankly, it would not be possible in this format, and I was not expecting it, but if that’s what you’re looking for, you will not find it here.
We’re playing fast and loose with the story beats here on ReelShort, so go in with an open mind. Tristan’s dad is evil. Isolde plays a much smaller role. Drobny is a cowboy, and I am here for it. The priests wear truly iconic 70’s era hippie sunglasses. It’s a delight. You never know what will be on screen next.
The story jumps right into the dynamic between Mark and Tristan, who have a much more contentious beginning. The dynamic between them is tortured and angsty, but still playful.
In ReelShort’s version of Salt Kiss, the camp factor is turned up way past ten. It’s audaciously over the top, and I was kicking my feet in delight at the soap opera-esque tone and frolicking approach to this intense story.
The spice is fully evident in this adaptation, but there’s nothing full frontal. This is not porn; it is not X-rated, but it is certainly suggestive content that does a good job of tantalizing viewers.
As someone new to ReelShort, this is such an easy format to get sucked into. I found myself running late, blow-drying my hair, scrolling to just one more episode.
ReelShort’s Salt Kiss adaptation fully does what it set out to do. It’s fun, it’s fanciful, and it’s sexy. I will definitely be watching their version of Honey Cut and Bitter Burn, the next two books in the series, when they drop on the platform,
