Julian Kade plays up the image of the spoiled brat, complete with a miserable attitude, to keep himself safe from the world. Being his usual ornery self, he manages to piss off the caterer for his parents’ anniversary party and his downstairs neighbor, and finds himself trapped in an elevator with both of them.

In the elevator, something strange happens. These improbable companions find themselves with more in common than they ever would have guessed, and secret desires that line up perfectly.

Freya Kapoor is just getting her career as a chef off the ground, Archer Wilde is hopelessly lost, and Julian never lets anyone get too close. None of them is looking for a relationship, but the spark between them gives them an idea, a no-strings-attached arrangement where the three of them can explore the obvious chemistry between them.

Can three broken people overcome their demons and capture something beautiful?

Being stuck in an elevator in a power outage would normally be terrifying on its own. But add to that a stuck-up rich prick who hates me and a brutally handsome man with a black eye and bloody knuckles, and it turns into what should be a scenario from hell.

The Rule of Three is a fiercely character-driven story, where the development and growth of each member of the triad is the focus. At the beginning of the story, all three of them are unsatisfied with life and profoundly lost. With each other’s help, they find themselves and their way to happiness.

The story promises heat from the start, and the sex scenes are artful. This is one of Cate’s spiciest books yet. The relationship between Freya, Archer, and Julian is so trusting, which allows them to push their boundaries, but always with respect. It is so hot.

“Is this okay?” she asks with that shy twinkle in her eye. “Fuck yes, Chef,” I reply.

With quick chapters and stimulating dialogue, The Rule of Three is a page turner. There’s a fantastic plot, interesting and emotional, but still fun. I tore through this book and loved every second of it. Two books in and it’s clear that Salacious Legacy lives up to its predecessor. I can’t wait to see what’s next for the series when the third book arrives in September.
