This season of Summer House delivered, without question. The entire season and every single member of the cast gave fans interesting storylines with plenty to talk about. I had a lot of predictions for this season, and while some of them came true, I was wrong about a hell of a lot. Leave it to the Summer House cast to throw us all for a loop.
Carl and Lindsay
Okay, I was mostly correct about this one. Carl absolutely made the right decision ending this engagement. He was not entirely innocent in the demise of the relationship. Neither was Lindsay. His lack of communication skills and blatant manipulation combined with her intensity and wild accusations made for a horrid mix. Everything the other one did seemed to cause immense annoyance. They don’t like each other at all. He wants her to be soft and sweet. She wants him to be ambitious and emotionally mature. Neither of them is fundamentally capable of those things. This relationship was a rollercoaster ride from hell this season, and Carl absolutely saved them both from a messy and expensive first divorce.
Danielle
Oof, girl. This was, once again, not Danielle’s season. I really thought she was going to pull it back together this year. I had hope. But instead, Danielle continued to be just so embarrassing. She made Gabby cry because she wasn’t properly pursuing the balloon guy and then hooked up with him herself. She told Paige she gives Craig nothing. She said she talks to people like this because she’s a CEO. And we all cringed with secondhand embarrassment once again.
These two also didn’t have their best season. Amanda definitely just wants to be at home with her dogs, while Kyle wants to be the life of the party. I was right about that, but what I didn’t see coming was how much these two were going to butt heads over these lifestyle differences.
I love Amanda. She is so relatable and so adorable. I hope for her sake these two can make it work, and raise a beautiful family of children who thrive on unhinged kitchen snacking, but things are looking grim. And Jesse Solomon is waiting patiently in the wings for those divorce papers to come through.
Paige remains my absolute favorite, not only on Summer House but maybe even on Bravo as a whole. She absolutely delivered this season. She understands her role on the show and gave the audience what they wanted with her snarky commentary, no-bullshit attitude, and top-tier confessionals. Paige stood by her girls, even when that meant telling hard truths. She proved that you can still be excellent reality TV without screwing over your friends. Lala and Scheana should take notes.
Ciara similarly proved that you can serve storylines without fucking over your friends. Her relationship (showmance?) with West was the perfect light and fun antidote to the serious tension in the house. Ciara has been burned bad by relationships on the show in the past, so it was wonderful to see her interact with someone who genuinely seems like a nice guy.
Gabby absolutely did add something special to the cast. She hit her stride this season. She had moments of vulnerability and positioned herself as the voice of reason in the house, a necessary role. It feels like the viewers really got to know Gabby this season, and she really hit her stride with the rest of the cast.
Mya just disappeared and no one mentioned a single thing about it. She was not on this season once. My bad.
Newbies
This was, by far, the thing I was most incorrect about in my predictions for the season. These newbies are a perfect fit. Jesse and West are interesting, entertaining, and have great dynamics with the rest of the cast. West especially is so funny and fun, and I love his relationship with Ciara this season. That cancer-free party at the end of the season was so heartwarming and hilarious, and really highlighted how perfect these newbies are. This is the best cast Summer House has had in years, if not ever.
